Welcome

The harsh and hauntingly beautiful landscapes of the Southern Alps will take your breath away. Mt Potts Lodge is nestled close to the rugged Potts Range at the headwaters of the Rangitata River in Canterbury and made world-famous as the backdrop to ‘Edoras’ in the Lord of the Rings films. Edoras, the fortress city of the Rohan people, found its home among the wild, rocky tussock terrain on Mount Sunday, at Mount Potts Station. Take a breath, take refuge, soak in the scenery and replenish your soul.

Mt Potts Station is an impressive property in the upper Rangitata River. The area is becoming increasingly popular as a tourism destination and we are making steady developments to ensure your time here with us is as unforgettable as the scenery. Travel the inland roads from Christchurch or Ashburton through the Canterbury plains, the largest area of flat land in New Zealand. Dwarfed by the huge Southern Alps is Methven, a popular winter resort and gateway to nearby Mount Hutt ski field.
